Unit production is a unique manufacturing method. At Dow
we use an ETON system developed especially
to conform to our diversified requirements. Several hundred carriers, each
uniquely bar coded, are employed to move each item from operation to
operation. A routing is programmed into a computer which in conjunction with
an electronic line controller enables us to keep track of each individual
item as it cycles through to completion. Production and quality data is
accumulated in real time, and we know at all times the status of any given
job. Work in progress is kept to a minimum and throughput is exceptionally
fast.
